A New Model of Cancer Care for the Nation's Capital

The Need is Urgent. You Can Help.

CSC DC Map

Our Vision

We are building CSC Washington, D.C., to serve all people impacted by cancer – patients, caregivers, family members, children, or teens. As a longtime trusted and relentless ally to cancer patients and caregivers, we understand the realities of this disruptive disease and can provide highly personalized support when and where it’s needed most.

Our new location will serve the National Capital Region and will be a center of excellence. In addition to direct patient support and navigation, the center will house a think tank focused on the challenges of health equity, and it will be a hub for ideation, cross-sectoral collaboration, and the testing of new modalities of care.

Learnings will be shared with our global network of affiliates, hospitals, and health care partners. It will serve also as a platform to engage our country’s policymakers so that we can effect systemic change at the national level.

The Need

Washington, D.C., has the highest reported death rates due to breast and prostate cancer. It’s in the top quarter for cervical and colorectal cancer. More people die from cancer in Washington, D.C., than from Alzheimer’s disease, stroke, diabetes, Parkinson's disease, chronic lower respiratory disease, HIV/AIDS, suicide, influenza, and pneumonia combined. Facing limited resources and access to care, patients are often diagnosed after the cancer has spread, making recovery less certain.

A Call to Action

While cancer can impact us all, certain communities bear a disproportionate burden. More Black people die from cancer and have lower survival than any other racial or ethnic demographic group in the U.S. Cancer is the leading cause of death among Latino people, who are at higher risk for gallbladder cancer and certain infection-related cancers such as stomach, liver, and cervical cancer. Some studies show that LGBTQ people face higher risks for certain cancer types including lung, anal, breast, cervical, and skin cancer.

It doesn’t have to be this way. Together, we can make a difference.

How You Can Help

CSC Washington, D.C., is in its early phases of development thanks to investments from a group of local leaders. To bring our vision to life and build this new community of support, we need to raise a total of $1.5 million dollars in Phase 1 to cover start-up costs including operations, professional staff, and core program development.

Participate in the campaign to make CSC DC a reality and help provide vital services and support to cancer patients.
